A friendly, chatty but upmarket, 16th Century local, with attractive mix of furnishings, dark beams, candles and nice log fire in the main bar. A good choice of fair-priced home-made food is available from thick sandwiches and baguettes to steaks and the popular Sunday lunch. Vegetarian options are also available. Beers include a well kept Greene King IPA, Morland Original, a regularly changed Guest Beer and a good wine choice. The pub includes a public bar, restaurant and two further rooms with a large paved terrace overlooking the village church (where George Orwell is buried). Well behaved dogs allowed.
